Go With the Flow: A Crash Course on Flow Yoga

“A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.”
-Denis Waitley

Life can be fast or slow. Life can be challenging or easy. Life can be beautiful or ugly. Just like Yin and Yang, each opposing side is one within the other. It’s up to us to find the magic in all things, whether we initially perceive them to be good or bad.

If you are new to the studio, you may be wondering what is Flow Yoga. If you are a dedicated practitioner of one type of yoga style, you may be avoiding the other. As you read about Flow Yoga, open your mind!

Flow Yoga is a practice rooted in the style of Krishnamacharya and Hatha Yoga. This practice has dozens of core poses that are woven together like art by the instructor. Each Flow Yoga class you take will be different. The teacher creates a sequence of poses for each class, each time.

The beauty of this is that every class is unpredictable and exciting. In general, there are core poses that will be taught in most classes (check out BSY TV for Sun Salutations A and B or “Vinyasas” ).

The Flow classes take a faster pace. The term “flow” comes from the word vinyasa. Breath+Movement+Vinyasa. Flow+Vinyasa. So, you might take one, deep inhale for chair pose, then one slow exhale for a standing forward fold. Practicing a Flow Yoga class will allow you to move at a faster pace, increase heart rate, and create a meditative mindset.

As you practice yoga poses like downward facing dog, you spend a fair amount of time on your hands. This create a lot of strength for your upper body and gives you a wonderful inversion practice to help calm your heart rate and cleanse your body. Flow Yoga can be practiced by beginners and advanced practitioners.

However, check out a Beginner class if you are totally new to yoga. Our Beginner classes are Flow Yoga classes that move at a slower pace to make sure you know each pose.
