Yoga found me when I didn't even know that I needed it. I was going through a huge change in my life where I was overwhelmed with anxiety. I was desperately trying to come into my own and at the same time stake out my own independence (having my cake and eat it too). It came to the point where none of that happened, and I was left to pick up the pieces of my new life. One of my best childhood friends invited me along to a class, and at the time I thought it would be great exercise. That first class changed something inside of me. As I was drenched in sweat, trying to breathe deep as instructed, and put into these poses I couldn't even pronounce (or do), my mind felt at ease. After my first savasana, I knew I had to go back the next day. I became dedicated to my mat, my practice, and to myself. My life changed completely. As my body became stronger and more limber, so did my mind. All of the channels inside of me opened up, and I felt grounded for the first time in my life. I kept growing and kept learning, yoga becoming the backbone in my life, and one day it clicked inside of me that I wanted to teach. I knew that I wanted to help people learn how to move their bodies with their breath, and to show them that they can be strong physically as well as mentally. Anyone can pull themselves up, no matter where they are in life, and yoga has shown me how to take what I learn on my mat, and use it my everyday life.
